CB500 top end rebuild notes |
|
The valve guides are still in good shape. This confirms the supposed mileage at the time of purchase, which is a plus. The valve seats needed only very minor touching up and narrowing. I used factory Honda valve guide seals. The head cleaned up good and is in great shape also as far as threads, studs, gasket surfaces and cam bearing saddles. This engine has had a 650 cam for a few years. I also have a Web cam I might try eventually.
A couple months and several hundred miles down the road after installing the Dynoman 591 kit I'm very pleased with it. Beyond the expected improvement inherent in any new machining, the pistons really do offer a welcome performance boost. The broadened torque spread not only adds to ridability, it also permits less throttle to be used, thus reducing the four-cylinder buzz. I won't hesitate to recommend this kit, and in fact I already have used it in a customer's engine.
