® Of vacuum tubes and inner tubes

I'm far from a radio electronics expert. Maybe that's why I am impressed by the YouTube channels that explore restoration and repair of old vacuum tube electronics devices. They're fascinating. It occurs to me that the advocacy of these old radios, televisions and such has a parallel in the love of vintage Hondas. Vacuum tubes and inner tubes. Both communities reach back generations to something gone forever. Something foreign, forsaken, far away and forgotten. Anachronisms. Yet we're drawn to these things. We want to relive and revive essentially dead icons of the past. Things our children will likely chide us for. The vacuum tube represents something elusive and mysterious, yet it satisfies some yearning, and in that makes a statement. Similarly, one can't engage in 1970s Hondas against the backdrop of modern motorcycles without a sense of time travel, of rebellion against the present. Advocacy of fifty-plus year old Hondas demonstrates in some nostalgia, in others pragmatism. But in all of us, it's akin to peering enthusiastically into another time, another world.
