® The o-ring thing

The forum sohc4.net is promoting having your cylinder head machined and putting extra-o-rings at the head gasket in an effort to reduce head gasket oil leaks. Career Honda mechanics see this as ignorance. It ignores what Honda dealerships have been doing for more than fifty years. It ignores the history of how head gaskets have been handled in the car industry for even longer. And in typical forum fashion it ignores not only 70s Honda engine technology, but also the unfortunate fallout of altering the dimensions of critical engine parts.

While some might compare it with the career Honda mechanic's tactic of putting sealer on that head gasket instead, there really is no comparison. It is not just another take on the problem. Sealed head gaskets have been a thing in the import car world for several generations. Likewise, Honda dealers and even the Honda factory themselves have been using sealer-enhanced head gaskets for just as long. The machining and thicker o-ring approach is by contrast a very recent thing.
