® GL1100 and VF drive shaft bikes axle tightening procedure

This is the method described in the service bulletins and in the owner's manual correction pages for the GL1100, VF750S, VF750C, and VF1100C.

Step one: Both halves of the drive splines have been adequately greased with a good high percentage moly grease and the wheel installed. Lightly grease and install the axle, then gently spread the axle clamp. Note that the pinch bolt is not yet replaced.

Step two: Loosen the final drive assembly attaching nuts. About halfway off the studs is enough.

Step three: Tighten the axle. Don't be a gorilla. Tight is tight enough.

Step four: Tighten the final drive attaching nuts.

Step five: Tighten the pinch bolt.
