® Silicone brake fluid...why not?

One of the many faults of powersports user forums and online sources of every stripe is their almost universal disdain of silicone brake fluid. It's stupid. Vintage motorcycles are practically characterized by statistically low use, therefore what better than a fluid that was actually designed for low-use vehicles?

It's ironic. Riders insist on using silicone sealer on their engines but disdain silicone brake fluid in their brakes--just the opposite of what they should do. And forums merely perpetuate this nonsense.

One of the oldest articles on my website is on the subject of brake fluid. Almost from the beginning of my site in 1997 (when it was hosted on angelfire) I have been reporting on the facts of this continuing controversy. I have during that time drawn from my factory Honda and Kawasaki training, from experience, from research and observation, and have even talked with one of the engineers who first developed silicone brake fluid at Dow Corning. I have learned a lot, and have even had my views changed one-eighty on the subject. Here then is the link to the latest version of my article.
