® The Rick's Electrics and Procom scandal

My first encounter with Rick's Electrics replacement parts happened probably 30 years ago. Certain models of ATVs were prone to failing their ignition components, and like many, the shop I worked for gravitated to the Rick's Electrics solution. Some solution! Two things you could count on: Either the part didn't work to begin with or it failed much sooner than the customer or anyone else thought reasonable. Thus Rick's Electrics soon became synonymous with junk. And this was more than a generation ago.

Since then this experience has been reinforced through decades of working with the company's charging system stators and in the past few years their Honda streetbike ignition modules ("igniters"). No more reliable than their other products, unfortunately.

And speaking of igniters, the other major aftermarket player in this field is no better than Rick's Electrics. Though a recent entry into this market, Chinese-sourced Procom had a great initial showing and earned a lot of respect for a well-functioning part. However, in fewer than ten years the shine of its product has likewise dulled, gaining a reputation for lasting only a fraction of the duration of Honda's original igniters.
