® "Just Saying"

There is an expression attributed to Gen Z, "...just saying!" I think it's a reminder that you don't have to take personally everything someone says. For a long time I have been under attack for speaking the truth about powersports maintenance. So little of the technical advice on forums is connected to reality. It's ruining the vintage industry. And of course, in every instance, the vitriol directed at me after reading one of my articles is personal. Ad hominen. Shooting the messenger. Never do they rebut the subject, bringing examples, data, or supporting material.

It's always slander and accusations. I am a shill for such and such company. I am jealous of another mechanic. I am attempting to hurt someone's reputation. I am mental. And many times, the attacker takes the position of the offended one. He acts as if I attacked him--not his ideas but him--personally. I try hard to not be personal. It's ideas I challenge, not people. I have seldom if ever descended to the personal, and in fact I recently overhauled my website to expunge anything that could be construed as personal. And yet, evidentally, my articles are taken as personal attacks. Comparing unqualified Internet advice with industry best practices is to some folks equal to being confrontational. What ever happened to civil discourse, the exchange of ideas? Just saying...
