Dynojet kit reversal |
Forums advocate replacing the carburetor slide in a Honda carburetor that is having a Dynojet kit removed. Very few if any 70s through 80s Hondas, most notably the CBX1000 and its cousins the first-gen DOHC fours, benefit from the Dynojet kit. Thus it is typically reversed by knowledgeable carburetor rebuilders.
What Dynojet was trying to do with the slide hole enlargement was make the vacuum slide rise differently. A Honda CV carburetor's slide does not rise in direct or linear proportion to throttle opening. It lags a little. This is a good thing and is why CV carbs work as well as they do, particularly in the area of throttle response. Enlarging the hole causes the slide to delay less, in this way mimicking a variable venturi (mechanical slide) type carburetor.
The thing is, this is a benefit to a very small group of people. The effect is slight and works only when wide open throttle is part of the throttle opening change. This doesn't happen very often on the street. For this reason, the enlarged hole will not be noticed by most riders, It can be left as-is.
