® The YouTube syndrome

Not a YouTube item but a commentary on our society nonetheless. Supposedly a real garment tag.

We gravitate toward the caricature, the unreal, the sensational. There is no time for serious thought, for the unemotional weighing of ideas (else why would the last free country on earth be sliding toward socialism?) We used to say "sound bites." However now I think YouTube, far more than just an entertainment source, has come to represent society's loss of the ability to quietly reason. The rise and preeminence of escapism? Yes, but that's just the symptom, not the malady, which is the inability of man to think soberly about anything. Solomon said it best:

There was a small city with few men in it and a great king came to it, surrounded it and constructed large siegeworks against it. But there was found in it a poor wise man and he delivered the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man. So I said, Wisdom is better than strength. But the wisdom of the poor man is despised and his words are not heeded. The words of the wise heard in quietness are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools. Ecclesiastes 9:13-17
The ancient Job said this way:
Iron is taken from the dust, and copper is smelted from rock. Man puts an end to darkness, he sinks a shaft far from habitation, forgotten by the foot; the path no bird of prey knows; the proud beasts have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed over it. He puts his hand on the flint; he overturns the mountains at the base. He hews out channels through the rocks, and his eye sees anything precious. But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? Man does not know its value, it is hidden from the eyes of all living... Job 28:1-21
